049 - A walker: boxwood handle, stripped and stained ash shank. I made the handle from a natural 90-degree angle in a small branch. This means the grain follows the shape of the handle right from the joint to the nose. You won't find a stronger wooden handle. Following the natural shape, I worked finger grips into the handle. It fits the hand beautifully, with a slight preference for the right hand, but could be used in either. |

The spacer is of nicely coloured ram's horn set between rings of cold-cast brass/copper mix....

...while the shank is an elegant but sturdy piece of ash with the bark stripped off and just slightly darkened with potassium permanganate. It's nice and straight, but with some interesting knobbles down the shank.... |
