052 - An extremely silly stick!

I had this very skinny little gnarled and bent piece of holly with a short piece of branch attached. It stood there in the corner of the workshop for months, then one day it made up its mind what it wanted to be.

I am by no means an expert carver, but I set to work with my craft knives and produced this little fellow with a big nose.

The stick is extremely light. The shank is just 19mm (3/4") diameter at the thickest point, tapering down to 11mm (7/16") at the tip.

Rather than attempt to straighten it, I left it in its natural shape to produce a characterful rustic stick.

It has all sorts of knobbly bits and scars down the shank.

This would make a great stick for a child or small adult. In fact, holly is an extremely strong wood, so despite appearances, this stick would also make a perfectly good walking aid for the average adult.

In fact I find it just right for myself. I'm 5'10" (1.78m) and 12 stone (168 pounds, or 78 kilos).

Length of stick 37 1/2" (96cm).

Like most of my sticks, it can be cut down to size. Once cut to length I would like to finish it off with a stag antler tip rather than my usual brass ferrule.
