067 - A rather magnificent scroll-nosed crook (or market stick, if shortened). The handle is of spalted sycamore and the shank is pearwood.

(Fans of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels will be relieved to hear this is not sapient pearwood and no Luggage was harmed in the making of this stick.)

The carved scroll splits into two as it curls round the nose.

A stainless steel rod is inserted through the nose for reinforcement and capped-off with a piece of abalone shell set in black epoxy resin and finished flush with the surface.

Further stainless steel reinforcement has been inserted through the crown and finished off in like fashion.

The sycamore wood is full of different colours and interesting grain patterns.

The handle is joined to the dark red-brown, almost black, shank via a two-tone spacer. The upper part is black buffalo horn and the lower part is reclaimed plastic.

The shank has some large knobbly bits towards the bottom end, though these may be lost if it's cut down to market stick size.

Maximum length 53 inches (135cm).
