082 - A thumbstick/wading stick with sycamore head and a turned birds-eye maple shank.

This is a custom thumbstick made for an angler. It was to be used for wading, so needed extra weight added to the tip. I achieved this by inserting 10 inches or so of heavy steel rod into the bottom of the stick, embedded in epoxy resin.

The head is made from a natural fork of sycamore, shaped to fit the hand. I added a loop of leather thong so that a lanyard could be attached to the stick.

The spacer consists of two layers of black buffalo horn and one of reclaimed white plastic.

The shank is turned birds-eye maple, displaying superb patterns in the grain.
