| 084 - A nose-out crook with a black buffalo horn handle and a slim stripped holly shank. |
| |
| Like no. 83 this is a crook rather than a market stick, and would normally be gripped by the neck or shank like a staff. The shank could be shortened to make a fine market stick for someone with small hands, but would not be suitable for the larger hand. |
| |
The spacer between handle and shank is made from black and white reclaimed
plastic above a layer of brass-filled epoxy resin. |

| The stripped shank has some of those nice knobbly bits that are so typical of holly. Note that the light-coloured surface is not as snow-white as might appear from some of the pictures. This is due to the limited tonal range of digital cameras which can't really cope with jet-black buffalo horn on a light-coloured shank. The colour will deepen somewhat with time; the newly-worked surface always looks very pale compared to a well-weathered stick. | |||
