112 - A slim but strong knobstick. Cow horn on a dog-rose shank.

I made the knob from French Charolais cow horn. This is an attractive, light-coloured horn with an outer layer of white and streaks of red-brown, grey-green and honey. The capping is (probably) Texas longhorn cattle horn, which complements the Charolais with a darker grey-green streaked with white. I inserted a disc of mock amber, and used the same material for the spacer between two thin layers of white reclaimed plastic. (Some damn-fool book club keeps sending me membership cards; their letters go into the recycling bin unread, and the plastic goes into my sticks - a very satisfactory arrangement...)

The shank is made from a dog-rose stem with the crusty old outer bark (and the thorns, of course) stripped off to reveal a more photogenic inner layer.
