| 115 - A simple one-piece slim rustic walking stick in blackthorn. The handle is an unusual (but very comfortable) shape. Maximum overall length approx. 36" / 92cm Diameter of shank 7/8" / 22mm, with almost no taper. |

| I made this stick from a very well seasoned old piece of blackthorn with root attached. The root had a handy-looking bend in it and I pulled this right round to 90° to provide a good support for the ball of the hand. In fact a lot more work than is immediately obvious went into shaping the whole stick. This involved straightening the shank and the main part of the handle, and adjusting the angles between them. | |||

| Here you can see how that bend on the handle supports the hand. The fingers fit
neatly around the knobbly bits which provide an excellent grip. Note that this will only work with the right hand, so my apologies to any southpaws out there; this stick is not going to work for you (just another example of how cruel nature can be!). | ![]() | ||

| The knobbly bits get, well... sort of knobblier... down towards the bottom end
where the user won't be handling it much. This all helps to emphasise the
rustic nature of the stick. The bark is a lovely deep, rich, red-brown colour with subtle variations. A handsome little stick with good strength for its lightweight appearance. |
