| I made this from a stout hawthorn stem risinging from a near-horizontal branch.
A smaller shoot growing from the same point had left a shallow twisted
"furrow", adding some character to the thick end. The knobbly shank shows
numerous small scars and nicks where it has tangled with other twigs and
branches. I shaped the knob to fit the larger hand. Combined with the length, this makes the stick ideal for a big fellow in need of support and protection. The exposed wood at the top end has been lightly stained to tone down the contrast with the dark-coloured bark. | |||
