C001 - A walking stick made of unidentified wood turned on a lathe. The shank is made in three sections jointed with steel screw dowels. The handle is in the form of a stylised horse's fetlock and hoof. The black-finished sections are rusticated in a pattern of small circles, which along with the overall appearance suggests to me a South-East Asian origin. Overall length 94 cm. |

The stick is tipped with an aluminium mushroom-headed spike which reflects the general style of the design. |

The inscription on this raised panel on the handle reads: 1996 (V) THAMYAINO MADE IN (?)WALUI ...where (?) is an undecipherable character, or maybe just an ornamental flourish. A search of the Web indicates there is a Walui in India, also a Mwalui in East Africa. |
