C015 - Collector's item: a very nice old ebony walking cane with silver knob.

Length 35 inches (89 cm)

Thickness of shank tapers from 0.85 inch (21 mm) down to 0.65 inch (17 mm).

This is a very strong, but smart looking, medium-to-heavy-weight stick.

The shank is turned from jet-black solid ebony while the knob is filled sterling silver - i.e. it's hollow and will have been filled with some sort of compound. Regrettably, you don't get 4 oz. of solid silver at this sort of price!

An ornate floral pattern is chased into the silver knob. This is quite clear on the collar part, but most of that on the actual knob has been rubbed away. The top surface of the knob is plain, and was doubtless intended to be that way - there's no point in placing decorations where they will be worn away in no time!

There are quite a few minor dings and dents, and one bigger one. This is about the norm for a stick of this age. Some people would say this adds to the stick's character. They may well be right, but I can guarantee the same people will ask a higher price for one without any dents!

On the left, you will see the seam in the silver has opened up slightly at the bottom. Again, this is much to be expected. I have run some glue underneath it and smoothed the surface down to reduce the likelihood of its opening any further.

On the right, the London hallmark appears to be for 1925 (k), but the year letter is not entirely clear.

The shank is in nice condition and the excellent original finish takes a good shine with a quick polish-up.

The tip is of ox horn and has plenty of wear left in it.
